What's new

July 1st is “Lake Biwa Day.”

Information

In order to suppress the occurrence of freshwater red tides, Shiga Prefecture enacted the
” Ordinance Relating to the Prevention of Eutrophication in Lake Biwa”
(Lake Biwa Ordinance) on July 1, 1980.
The following year, to commemorate the first anniversary of the enactment of the Lake Biwa
Ordinance, July 1st was designated as “Lake Biwa Day.”

“Lake Biwa Day” is not limited to environmental conservation of Lake Biwa; “Biwa-katsu Events”
will be held in various regions throughout Shiga Prefecture until August 27th, “World Lake Day.”

Let’s work together to pass on the beautiful Lake Biwa to future generations.
